Kent State is a 1981 American television movie about the Kent State shootings directed by James Goldstone who won an Emmy for his work on the movie. It was filmed at Gadsden State Junior College in Alabama.[1] [2]
The film cost a reported $5 million.[3]
The film was based on two books: James Michener's Kent State: What Happened and Why? and The Kent State Coverup by James Munves and Joseph Kelner. It was the strength of Michener's commercial reputation that sold the project to NBC. The original script was written by Gerald Green and then rewritten by Richard Kramer. Cast members of the film were reportedly unhappy with changes.[3][4]
