Lake Elmo is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 11,335 at the 2020 census.[3] According to 2022 census estimates, the population is 13,449.[4]

Much of the area within the city limits is still farmland, giving the city a rural appearance. After the city lost a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Council, a regional planning authority, the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2005 ordered that it had to compile a plan in accordance with the Council's regional development guide.[6] Lake Elmo's population is rapidly growing. It is projected to be over 21,000 by 2040.[7]
