Laura White (born 1987) is a Grammy–nominated English singer-songwriter from Atherton in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester. White is known for being a contestant on the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008. As part of The X Factor Finalists group, she reached number one in the United Kingdom, Scotland and Ireland with "Hero" in November 2008, eventually becoming the fastest–selling single of 2008 in the UK.[1]

She released her debut single "You Should Have Known" in 2009, which reached number thirty–two in the United Kingdom, thirty-three in Scotland and seventy in Poland.[2][3] In addition, it reached number thirty-four on the UK Singles Downloads Chart and number two on the UK Independent Charts.[4][5] Four years later, in 2013, White released her debut extended play, What My Mother Taught Me. In 2016, she featured uncredited vocals on "Love on Me" with Galantis and Hook n Sling, which was a commercial success internationally. Her debut studio album, Woman to Woman, is scheduled to be released in November 2024.[6]

The song "New York Raining", co-written by her and performed by Charles Hamilton and Rita Ora, was included on the deluxe edition of the album Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 1, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack.[7]

White was a credited writer on Beverly Knight's single "Someone Else's Problem", and was a part of the song "Nobody", the winning song performed by The Voice Australia's Tarryn Stokes. The song reached number one on the ARIA Charts in Australia. In addition to writing and releasing music both as a solo performer and as a songwriter, White has also written for fils and series, including the Netflix comedy–drama The Bold Type, and the movie Four Kids and It starring Michael Caine.
