Actress Denise Alexander portrayed the role from March 13, 1973, through February 28, 1984, as a series regular, and from 1996 to 2009 as a recurring character. Alexander briefly returned to the series in 2013 to commemorate its 50th anniversary and has since made subsequent appearances in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
