Lisa J. Peterson (born 1964)[1] is an American diplomat who has served United States Ambassador to Burundi since June 27, 2024.[2] She had served United States Ambassador to Eswatini[3][4][5] Between January 20 and July 14, 2021, she served in the Biden administration as the Acting Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights in 2021.[6]
