Puck van Heel was the first Feyenoord player to represent his nation at the FIFA World Cup, captaining the Netherlands at the 1934 tournament. Ove Kindvall became the first non-Dutchman to do so, playing for Sweden at the 1970 tournament, and Shinji Ono became the first non-European to do so, playing for Japan at the 2002 tournament.
