There are 4,466 hospitals in Mexico. 67% of hospitals are private and the remaining 33% are public. The most important public hospital institutions are the Secretariat of Health (Secretaria de Salud), Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE). These form an integral part of the Mexican healthcare system.
