Lopatinsky District (Russian: Лопа́тинский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,440 square kilometers (560 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Lopatino.[1] Population: 14,942 (2010 Census);[2] 16,190 (2002 Census);[5] 17,838 (1989 Soviet census).[6] The population of Lopatino accounts for 29.4% of the district's total population.[2]
