Marcelo Gustavo Kohen (born August 11, 1957) is an Argentine international lawyer and academic specialised in the areas of international legal theory, territorial and border disputes, international adjudication, and peaceful settlement of international disputes.[1][2] He is Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.[1][3]

Kohen is the Secretary-General of the Institut de Droit International, the oldest organisation of international lawyers and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (1904).[4] He was the first non-European appointed as Secretary-General since the Institut's foundation in 1870.[5]

He has worked as legal counsel and advocate for several states before the International Court of Justice and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.[6][7][8][9][10] He has been an arbitrator designated by states in at least fourteen international cases, including at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and UNCITRAL.[11][12][13]
