Mari-Tureksky District (Russian: Мари́-Туре́кский райо́н; Meadow Mari: Марий Тӱрек кундем, Marij Türek kundem) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the fourteen in the Mari El Republic, Russia. It is located in the east of the republic. The area of the district is 1,500 square kilometers (580 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Mari-Turek.[2] As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 23,155, with the population of Mari-Turek accounting for 22.3% of that number.[4]
