Mariupol Raion (Ukrainian: Маріупольський район, romanized: Mariupolskyi raion; Russian: Мариупольский район, romanized: Mariupolsky rayon) is a raion (district) of Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It was created in July 2020 as part of the reform of administrative divisions of Ukraine. The center of the raion is the city of Mariupol.[3][4] Population: 502,909 (2022 estimate).[2] The area of the raion has been occupied by Russian troops since March 2022 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which continue to use the old, pre-2020 administrative divisions of Ukraine.[citation needed]
