Naomh Conaill CLCG[2] is a GAA club for the Glenties parish in south-west County Donegal. As well as the town of Glenties, the club also covers the area to the village of Fintown and the areas of Kilraine, The Glen and Maas down to the Gweebara Bridge. Much of this area lies within the Donegal Gaeltacht area.
Naomh Conaill is one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in County Donegal.[3] The club has seven Donegal Senior Football Championship titles, all won since 2005. It reached the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship final in 2010 and 2019.[4][5]
The club is its reigning County Senior Football Champions, having beaten Gaoth Dobhair in the 2023 final. The current football manager is Martin Regan.
But Gildea believes part of their legacy is that there is now a steady progression of Boys in Blue making the step up to senior football with their county.
The strongholds of Gaelic football in the county — particularly since the turn of this century — such as Gweedores Gaoth Dobhair, Letterkennys St Eunans, Ardara, Four Masters from Donegal Town and Naomh Conaill from Glenties have all been well represented on the pitch this summer.
Doherty is looking forward to his first Ulster final, only the second in the club's history. The Naomh Conall club's only previous appearance was back in 2010 when the Donegal representatives led at half-time but lost 2–9 to 0–10 against an Oisin McConville-inspired Crossmaglen.
