The protests began in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York.[2][3][4]
On October 10, 2011, protesters from Occupy Chicago joined with members of the "Stand Up Chicago" coalition and marched through downtown Chicago, with numbers estimated at 3,000.[5][6]
