The following outline is provided as an overview of and topical guide to Bangladesh:
Bangladesh – sovereign country located in South Asia.[1] It is bordered by India on all sides except for a small border with Burma to the far southeast and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. Together with the Indian state of West Bengal, it makes up the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal. The name Bangladesh means "The land of Bengal" in the official Bengali language. Bangladesh became an independent sovereign nation in 1971 after a bloody struggle for liberation from Pakistan led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and General M. A. G. Osmani. Bangladesh is the eight-most populous country and the fifth-most populous democracy in the world. Furthermore, Bangladesh inherited the borders drawn by Cyril Radcliffe, 1st Viscount Radcliffe during Partition.
