Overview of resurrection appearances in the Gospels and Paul

The Gospels, Acts and Paul describe several resurrection appearances of Jesus. An overview is given below.

Women at the tomb
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome go to the tomb, where the stone has been rolled away.[1] Mary Magdalene and "the other Mary" go to the tomb.[2] "The women who had come with him from Galilee"[3] find the stone rolled away and the tomb empty.[4] Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb and finds the stone removed.[5]
Mary Magdalene informs Peter and the beloved disciple, who go to the tomb.[6]
Appearance of angels at the tomb
They see, sitting inside the tomb when they enter, "a young man, dressed in a white robe," who says that "He has been raised; he is not here."[7] An angel appears who rolls back the stone and sits on it outside the tomb, telling them that "He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said."[8] Two men "in dazzling clothes" suddenly appear while they are in the tomb, saying that "He is not here, but has risen."[9] Appearance of two angels to Mary Magdalene.[10]

First appearance of Jesus
