Palkinsky District (Russian: Па́лкинский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Pskov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast and borders with Pskovsky District in the northwest, Ostrovsky District in the southeast, Pytalovsky District in the south, Viļaka and Alūksne Municipalities of Latvia in the southwest, and with Pechorsky District in the northwest. The area of the district is 1,191.2 square kilometers (459.9 sq mi).[3] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Palkino.[2] Population: 8,826 (2010 Census);[4] 10,520 (2002 Census);[7] 12,392 (1989 Soviet census).[8] The population of Palkino accounts for 33.1% of the district's total population.[4]
