Pavel Filatyev

Pavel Olegovich Filatyev[a] (Russian: Павел Олегович Филатьев; born 9 August 1988[2]) is a former soldier of the Russian Army's paratroopers during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[3] He published a detailed 141-page memoir on the Russian social media site Vkontakte,[3] which caused a sensation in August 2022.[3][4] Filatyev was part of the initial ground invasion in the first two months of the war. He was injured and sent back to Russia for recuperation, during which time (45 days) he wrote his memoir, called "ZOV 56" after the tactical symbol displayed on Russian vehicles during the invasion.[4][3] He fled Russia afterwards, passing through many countries. He was arrested in Tunisia, where the authorities thought he was a spy. After Tunisia, he decided to go to France where he asked for political asylum.[4][3]
