Peter Keely (1922 – 15 October 2004[1]) was an Irish footballer who played with Shelbourne and represented the league internationally.[2] Keely won two league titles, in 1947 and 1953,[3] two Shields and two inter-league caps during his eleven season with Shels. Following his 1947 title, he was offered £2,000 to transfer to Leeds United, but declined.[4] He played as a wing-halfback[5] and was released by Shels in July 1956.[6]
His son Dermot had two spells as Shelbourne manager.[7]
Peter Keely was given a Hall of Fame award at the 1997 FAI Cup final alongside Fay Coyle.[8][9]

Keely spent his entire league career, which spanned much of the 1940s and early 50s with the Dublin club and was a member of the side that won the League of Ireland title in 1947. He also represented the league at international level.

Leeds United, building for next season, offered £2,000 for Keely, Shelbourne (Ireland), halfback, but the player turned down the transfer as he has a job in Dublin.

Peter Keely and Fay Coyle are the Hall of Fame recipients at next week's FAI Harp Lager Cup final. Keely, father of Home Farm boss Dermot, played his senior career with Shelbourne and was on the Reds team which lost the 1949 FAI Cup final to Dundalk.
