The village falls within the historic parish of Eglwysilan[2] is bounded by Cilfynydd, Coedpenmaen, Trallwn and Glyncoch, and was once location of Bodwenarth Colliery, located in Bodwenarth Woods close to the main school - Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Pont Siôn Norton.
