Aleppo offensive (November 2016)
- Syrian Armed Forces have captured the entire Hanano district in eastern Aleppo and are working on removing mines and improvised explosive devices from the district, while the rebels blame lack of hospitals for collapsing defences. (Reuters)
- Syrian Armed Forces, Liwa al-Quds and other allied forces capture Jabal Badro Neighbourhood, Ard Hamra area and began advance at Al-Sakhour district. (South Front)

Turkey–ISIL conflict
- Turkish Armed Forces claim that an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant rocket attack on Turkish-backed Syrian rebel forces caused symptoms of chemical weapons in 22 soldiers. (Al-Arabiya)

Law and crime

The Republicans (France) presidential primary, 2016
- A second-round runoff takes place in France between François Fillon and Alain Juppé to decide who will be the Republican presidential candidate in next year's presidential election. (Reuters) (The Guardian)

- In a referendum, Switzerland rejects a proposal to abolish commercial nuclear power by 2029. (BBC)
2016 United States presidential election recount and audit
- The campaign of Republican president–elect Donald Trump has called the planned recounts by Green nominee Jill Stein's campaign in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan a "scam" and has criticized the participation of the campaign of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. (BBC)

2016 Formula One season
- In motor sport, Nico Rosberg wins the 2016 Drivers Championship finishing five points ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. It is Rosberg's first Formula One title. (Fox Sports)
104th Grey Cup
- In Canadian football, the Ottawa Redblacks defeat the Calgary Stampeders 39–33. It is the first Grey Cup won by the Redblacks in franchise history. Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris is MVP and becomes the oldest player to win the MVP award in a Grey Cup. (CBC)
