14 January 2016 – multiple explosions and gunfire were reported near the Sarinah shopping mall in central Jakarta, Indonesia. One blast went off in a Burger King restaurant outside the mall.
15 January 2004 – TransJakarta (pictured), the bus rapid transit system of Jakarta, commenced operations
15–16 January 1974 – During a visit by Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, widespread riots break out, leading to the formal disbanding of President Suharto's personal assistants

22 February 1978 – Istiqlal Mosque (pictured) in Jakarta, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, is inaugurated

9 March 1978 – The first toll road in Indonesia, Jagorawi Toll Road connecting Jakarta, Bogor, and Ciawi is opened
24 March 2019 – Jakarta MRT (pictured) opened to the public, and the first rapid transit in Indonesia

20 April 1975 – Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (pictured), a large cultural park in Jakarta, opens
25 April 1983 – The Jakarta Post newspaper begins publication.

4–8 and 12–15 May 1998 – Riots occurred (pictured) throughout Indonesia, including in Jakarta (12–15 May), triggered by economic problems including food shortages and mass unemployment, and eventually led to the resignation of President Suharto and the fall of the New Order government.
30 May 1619 – Dutch troops raze the city of Jayakarta, later establishing their capital, Batavia, over the rubble

22 June 1527 – Fatahillah, on behalf of the Demak attacked and conquered the Portuguese in Sunda Kelapa (in present-day North Jakarta), after which it was renamed Jayakarta.

5 August 2003 – A suicide bomber detonated a car bomb outside the lobby of the JW Marriott Hotel, in Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta, killing twelve people and injuring 150.
17 August 1945 – The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (pictured) was read at 10:00 on Friday in Sukarno's house at 56 Jalan Pegangsaan Timur.
28 August 2023 – Jabodebek LRT opened to the public, and the third light rapid transit in Indonesia.

12 September 1984 – during the Tanjung Priok massacre, 24 people were killed and 54 injured.
21 September 1629 – during the Siege of Batavia, the Dutch governor Jan Pieterszoon Coen died and was buried in Batavia (now Jakarta).
30 September 1965 – The Thirtieth of September Movement (pictured) assassinated 6 Indonesian Army generals in an abortive coup d'état by Communist Party of Indonesia in Lubang Buaya.

9–22 October 1740 – Dutch East Indies soldiers and native collaborators killed at least 10,000 ethnic Chinese residents of the port city of Batavia (pictured)
17 October 2023 – The Whoosh High-speed rail inagruated by President Joko Widodo which connecting Jakarta to Bandung, and first High-speed rail in ASEAN and Indonesia

28 October 1928 – The Second Youth Congress was held in Batavia, Dutch East Indies by the young Indonesian nationalists, resulting in a declaration that is called the Youth Pledge.

4 November 2016 – an Islamist mass protest (pictured), aimed against the Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama for an alleged blasphemy of the Quran, was attended by an estimated 50,000–200,000 protesters

1 December 2019 – LRT Jakarta (pictured) is one of the light rapid transit systems in Jakarta, is the second light rapid trasit inauguration after LRT Palembang
