Ranveer Singh is an Indian actor working in Hindi cinema. He made his acting debut with Yash Raj Films' romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) opposite Anushka Sharma, which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.[1][2] After uniting with Sharma in YRF's Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011),[3] Singh received critical acclaim for playing a melancholic thief in Lootera (2013).[4] He emerged a star with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic drama Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), alongside Deepika Padukone.[5]

In 2014, Singh starred in the action film Gunday with Arjun Kapoor, and the poorly received Kill Dil.[6][7] Zoya Akhtar's ensemble comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) was his next release.[8] Singh's reunion with Bhansali and Padukone in Bhansali's historical drama Bajirao Mastani (2015), where he played Bajirao I, established him as an actor.[9] It emerged as one of the highest grossing Hindi films, and won him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[10][11] After the 2016 poorly received Befikre, he again teamed with Bhansali and Padukone in the period drama Padmaavat (2018), portraying the evil Alauddin Khalji.[12][13] In the same year, Singh appeared as a corrupt policeman in Rohit Shetty's action film Simmba. Both films rank among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2018.[14]

Singh reteamed with Akhtar in the musical drama Gully Boy (2019). His performance as a rapper won him another Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[15][16][17] He later earned his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his work as Kapil Dev in the sports film 83 (2021).[18][19] However, the film underperformed commercially as like his next two releases.[20][21] Singh reinforced his status with the titular role in Karan Johar's romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), a critical and commercial success.[22][23]
