Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (transl. Sandeep And Pinky Have Absconded) is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language black comedy drama film directed and produced by Dibakar Banerjee with distribution by Yash Raj Films.[3] Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor star in lead title roles, respectively.[4] The filming began on 7 November 2017 in Mahipalpur.[5] Initially scheduled for theatrical release on 20 March 2020, the film was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic in India.[6] After being delayed for a year, it was finally released theatrically on 19 March 2021 and later on Amazon Prime.[1]
Made on the budget of ₹20 crores the film grossed ₹58.125 lakhs globally, emerging as a box office bomb.[2] The critical reception was mixed-to-positive with praise towards the storyline, performances (particularly Chopra), Banerjee's direction and social commentary but criticism towards its slow pacing.[7]
At the 67th Filmfare Awards, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar received 10 nominations, including Best Film (Critics), Best Actress (Chopra) and Best Supporting Actress (Neena Gupta), and won Best Dialogue (Grover & Banerjee).
