Sharqia Governorate (Arabic: محافظة الشرقية, romanized: Muḥāfaẓat ash-Sharqiyya, Egyptian Arabic pronunciation: [eʃ.ʃæɾˈʔejjæ], rural: [eʃ.ʃæɾˈɡejje]; lit. 'Governorate of the Eastern') is the third most populous of the 27 governorates of Egypt. Located in the northern part of the country, its capital is the city of Zagazig.
