It is about 5 miles (8 km) west of Banbury, it was an exclave of Gloucestershire[2] until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred it to Oxfordshire. In 1961 the parish had a population of 232.[3] On 1 April 1970 the parish was abolished and merged with Alkerton to form "Shenington with Alkerton".[4]
