Sohbat or sobat is a traditional food of the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.it originally belongs to the Tehsil of D.I.Khan district, Tehsil Kulachi, from where It was originated. After gaining popularity in District D.I. Khan district It was spread over to the other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Saraiki areas of Punjab. For Correction of record,as It is originated from Tehsil Kulachi, District Dera Ismail Khan, that is why, it is a Saraiki Dish, belonging to Saraiki cuisine and not the Pashtun or Pakhtoon dish at all.Sohbat or Sobat is a word which predominantly belongs to Saraiki language. It is worthwhile that the most important content of Sohbat is "Mana"(مانا- سرائیکی )which is roughly translated as Chapati but the word Chapati as well as the manufactured Chapati both don't suffice the quality and Spirit of ”Mana", " Mana" is prepared and cooked by the people of Dera Ismail Khan, which is very lean and soft piece of bread while the rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa prepare Chapati,Chapati is a bit thicker as Compared to "Mana", which does not suffice the True Spirit of Sohbat at all.Although it is not originally and traditionally not a Pashtun dish, but it was disseminated, proliferated and spawned to the other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, specifically Pashtun Areas from the predominantly Saraiki Native, Saraiki cultured Dera Ismail Khan.It is a Very popular dish in District D.G.Khan of Punjab as well.It is primarily part of Saraiki areas and Saraiki Cuisine, but due to being very much delicious and palatable, it is adopted by the Pashtun areas and Pashtun people juxtaposedly, translated known as painda in Pashto, which translates to “a group of people sitting together”, for the convenience of Pashtun and Pakhtoon people. Sohbat is a dish that is served to honor and show respect to guests in the area. It is a way of bringing people together and symbolising unity among those who enjoy it. Sohbat/Sobat is purely a Saraiki dish.It is as much Saraiki as the Kangaroo is Australian, as the Kiwi is New Zealander.[1]
