The Sports Institute for Northern Ireland, shortened to SINI, was formed in 2002 as a partnership between Ulster University and Sport Northern Ireland.[2] The institute, which was established to create a "high performance sporting system" in Northern Ireland,[2] is primarily based at Jordanstown Campus.[3] As of 2010, four 'Performance Development Centres' (PDCs) were offering additional services in Bangor, Belfast, Cookstown and Lisburn.[4]
SINI's facilities cater for Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games athletes and sports along with a number of other sports such as rugby, soccer, cricket, GAA and golf.[2] The services offered include performance planning, sport medicine, physiotherapy, performance analysis and advice.[5]
