St. Peter and St. Paul's Church (French: Église Saints-Pierre-et-Paul) of Wissembourg is frequently,[2] but incorrectly, referred to as the second largest Gothic church of Alsace after Strasbourg Cathedral.[3] However, the building, with its interior ground surface area of 1,320 square metres (14,200 sq ft) (60 by 22 metres (197 ft × 72 ft))[4] most probably is the second largest Gothic church in Bas-Rhin which is one of the two departments of the Alsace region.[5]

  3. ^ That honour would actually rather go to Saint-Martin Church, Colmar.
  4. ^ Figures given on the page dedicated to St. Nicholas Church, Haguenau
  5. ^ It does indeed beat likely rivals St. George's Church, Haguenau (61 by 19.6 metres (200 ft × 64 ft)) and St. George's Church, Sélestat (62 by 18.5 metres (203 ft × 61 ft)).
