Susan Phillips Read (born June 27, 1947)[1] is a former judge on New York State's Court of Appeals, having been appointed by Republican Governor George Pataki in 2003 for a 14-year term.[2][3][4] Her selection made the appointive high court the first in the United States to comprise a majority of women.[5] She resigned from the bench effective August 24, 2015.[6]
