I noticed that a template asking for references has been placed on this article. I'm afraid that it will be quite hard - if not impossible - to find any authoritative source that specifically defines this region. The name is formed from latin Danubius with the suffix -ia, as was a custom way to construct geographical names. It translates to "what comes from the Danube" or "Land of the Danube".
