While there are substantial similarities between the Wikipedia article and the external source, evidence suggests they copied from us rather than the other way around. First, the external site is dated 2009. This article was created in 2006. At the time our article was created, as a split from awareness ribbons in November 2006, much of the lead text was already established: "The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on its color. Many groups have adopted ribbons as symbols of support or awareness, and as a result, many causes often share each color. Some causes also seem to be represented by more than one color." This was gradually expanded. The words "or colors" and "This is a list of awareness ribbons" were added here, a year later, by a different contributor. I am fully confident that if we evaluated the terms in common, we would find further evidence of natural evolution. While it's always a good idea to evaluate potential copyright problems, in this case it seems likely we had the content first.--Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:13, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply] |
