The statements made about "Permanent Employment" are based on 14 years of work experience in the U.S., including a variety of permanent, temporary, full-time, and part-time positions. Anyone who has been in the U.S. working world for a few years has probably been exposed to the differences between those 4 types of positions. This means millions of people have been exposed to it. (Probably these millions of people don't spend much time thinking about it, since this is not the most exciting topic in the world.)
