I'll review this article shortly. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:28, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My main issue with the article as it stands is the raw lack of info, namely pre-Hyde. The Hyde section seems longer than the rest combined, when he seemed to have most of his success in Droylesden and Accrington Stanley, the later of which seems to be in the highest conference of any of those teams, and should probably have the most info. I got a good deal of google hits for both those tenures, so I'm sure it can be expanded. Aside from that,

  • "after spending a season there scoring 16 goals." comma after there
  • "He played football a lot " 'a lot' can be removed, not all that encyclopedic.
  • "until he was spotted by Norwich City and then went to play for their academy before leaving it in 2004 to go and play professionally for Chester City" a bit of a run-on. also, any more information on Norwick City, seeing as how it was three seasons?
  • "But on 23 October, less than a week later, he scored a bizarre own goal described as "The wierdest own goal I have ever seen, how did he do it." by many fans" several problems here, not the least of which is that the quote is not in either of those references.
  • After the article is expanded, it will need a copyedit by an outside pair of eyes; request one at WP:GOCE.

As a result of the above, I'm failing the nomination. It's a good start, but it's not ready yet. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:22, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA review (see here for criteria)

Nicely ballenced now.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
Fails lead. Lead should be at least 3 paragraphs of prose summerising the article. So perhaps the one you have already. Expand the special 11 and add one more about his notablity. Needs an eye ran over the prose to check it for any issues. See below for findings
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Not sure about the reliablity of one or two of the sources used. portsmouthmad is a fan site how accuate is that. Same for sportbox.tv and soccerfacts how accuate is it.

These are all reliable and have been checked, but i have replaced the portsmouthmad ref anyway. –LiamTaylor16:02, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  2. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  3. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  4. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Apart from the thing in the lead we also have other issues including:

Personal life is too short and should be merged with early life.

Could have a ref for him leaving chester

Whalley scored his first goal for Runcorn in the 5–1 defeat of his hometown club, Prescot Cables, on 20 September. Date not needed. Is there a match report to use as a ref

and netted again the following week in the loss to Matlock Town. Is this needed. Think about it if you don't note every goal he scored, unless it was important i.e. wins comp saves relgation or first goal then I would say it's not needed. Goes for other areas of the article.

He went on to play 21 league matches for Runcorn, before joining Witton Albion in March 2006. During his short spell with the club, he scored 6 goals in 18 league appearances. References needed

He subsequently joined League Two side Accrington Stanley on loan two months later,[13] Who owned him. He has a trial but who owned him.

club on 18 November 2006, Not needed date. I'm going to say this now. Any dates you have please remove them. Not needed doesn't add anything, unless it's like June 08 he signed for...

He also retained his place. rm also

Don't thing the mentioning of stadiums add much either

Conference North to join promotion hopefuls. POV at best but doesn't every team

Syle of play is too short consider moving somewhere else. Its okay

Ref next to the leauge he won.

And send to copyedit as Wizardman suggested. KnowIG (talk) 23:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
