This template is used to cite judgments listed in the British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) database. You should look up the case you wish to cite on BAILII, then refer to the URL of the web page on which the case appears to fill in the information required by the template.

The URL (web address) format used in BAILII for decisions of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council up to December 1995 is in the form "http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[year]_[num].html". From May 1996 onwards URLs are in the standard form "http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[num].html". Between January and April 1996, a mixture of these two URL formats is used.
To specify that a Privy Council case uses the older "http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[year]_[num].html" format, add the parameter "|format=1
".
The URL format for Irish cases changed midway through 2005 and again, twice, in 2019. For other years the correct format is automatically used, but for those two years the |format=
parameter is required, with a number between 1 and 4 as follows:
value | format | examples |
---|---|---|
|format=1 |
