General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - no
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I'm happy with ALT2 and ALT1, as is I can't see evidence for ALT0 in its current form and if the multiple article hook is a must then suggest alternative, something like: ALT0A:...that George Daniel has dated Charli XCX and his band worked with her on No Rome's "Spinning"? https://www.coupdemainmagazine.com/no-rome/17410

Sources missing from nomination, ALT0: couldn't find a source showing they started dating after/as a consequence of (I think that's how the hook reads) collaborating. ALT1 source:https://www.philstar.com/entertainment/2019/10/23/1962391/no-rome-gender-blind-singer ALT2 source:https://www.coupdemainmagazine.com/the-1975/11540 George Daniel similar to, but likely copied by https://www.ghbase.com/who-is-charli-xcx-boyfriend-george-daniel-singer-reportedly-engaged/ Bogger (talk) 17:51, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

ALT0 seems to have disappeared since I wrote it, probably when them dating was moved to Personal life. Their engagement and that ghbase article came out after I published the article, so I'd prefer ALT1 and ALT2 anyway. (Incidentally, I hope you didn't mind me pouncing on Mwaksy Mudenda - it is now just above 1500 characters, so I could nominate, but I wonder if you have any more sources before I do so.)--Launchballer 18:05, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
No problem about Mwaksy ...
ok so Happy to approve ALT1 (and @Launchballer: if you make a separate nomination for George Daniel using ALT2, I'll approve that too?)
Approved ALT1 Bogger (talk) 19:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Nominated Mudenda; WT:DYK appears to be threatening double QPQs, I really hope I've got in before it activates. The last time one of my noms had split hooks, the prepbuilder PSHAW'd one of them and then moved another one over manually, I didn't need a second nomination.--Launchballer 10:17, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
I don't see if ALT2 has been approved Bogger, and ALT1 is just confusing (what detractors? what inspiration? the article doesn't help) Launchballer. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 01:43, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Expanded the bit in the article and even provided a quote. Does this help?--Launchballer 02:13, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. The article does make sense now, but ALT1 will still be plain confusing to main page readers. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 03:00, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT3: ... that No Rome took his stage name from the response many people gave him when he told them he was entering the music industry? - though this seems rather wordy.--Launchballer 03:15, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT4 ... that the Filipino musician No Rome moved over 6,600 miles to London after Matty Healy expressed interest in his work? (Pretty sure geographic distances are WP:SKYISBLUE, though I got it from Google.)--Launchballer 16:14, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Bogger: Sorry to be a pain, but could you please approve George Daniel? (I have never needed to separate split hooks into their own nominations before now, and if that's your only objection, then this is good to go.)
AirshipJungleman29: ALT5 ... that the Guardian described No Rome's It's All Smiles as a "hyperpop headache"? (Can you tell I'm getting antsy that this is the oldest unapproved nom yet?)--Launchballer 19:38, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT2 Approved for George Daniel. Other hooks still possible for No Rome — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bogger (talkcontribs)
I'm going to keep looking, but I can suggest any of the following:
ALT6: ... that the Filipino musician No Rome promoted his 2021 album It's All Smiles with a zine?
ALT7: ... that the Filipino musician No Rome appeared on the Asia subset of Forbes 30 Under 30?
ALT8: ... that No Rome aborted Samantha's TV due to the pandemic? (If not, I'll keep looking.)--Launchballer 20:42, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT9: ... that the Filipino musician No Rome spent seven months working at a call centre because he was fed up of carrying his equipment around on buses? (I fear "MIDI controller" may be too technical for the main page.)--Launchballer 23:28, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT10: ... that No Rome made an album of sad songs called It's All Smiles?--Launchballer 17:59, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: @Launchballer: I love ALT3, and find it the most interesting out of all of them. Can you try playing around with shorter versions of that hook? Sorry to drag this out but I do prefer this one. Viriditas (talk) 21:36, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Also, don't forget to add the cited source here for ALT3 if you can. Viriditas (talk) 21:53, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT11 ... that the Filipino musician No Rome took his stage name from an instruction to not enter the music industry? https://www.philstar.com/entertainment/2019/10/23/1962391/no-rome-gender-blind-singer--Launchballer 22:02, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
@Launchballer: I think you're on the right track. When you look at the source, it says "When I was just starting, many people discouraged me, saying, 'No, Rome, not in music; try something else.'" So instead of saying he was instructed, maybe think about changing it to deterred, prevented, stopped, or dissuaded, since "instructed" loses the meaning of the original quote. Viriditas (talk) 22:18, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
I think 'prevented' and 'stopped' are stronger than 'discouraged', but I can suggest: ALT12 ... that the Filipino musician No Rome took his stage name from a recommendation to not enter the music industry?--Launchballer 22:44, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
Sure, I think we could go with that, but it still kind of loses the meaning of discouragement. When you study the history of popular public figures, this idea that they were repeatedly discouraged from pursuing what later brought them fame is quite common. For me, the problem with "recommendation" is that it doesn't really fit the context of being dissuaded or stopped from pursuing your dreams. Have you thought about using the word "doubt" here, as it nicely encapsulates the entire idea, such as "people doubting his career move", or "doubting his pursuit of a career in music"? Viriditas (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT13: ... that the Filipino musician No Rome took his stage name from people doubting his career choice?
ALT14: ... that the Filipino musician No Rome took his stage name from skeptics of his career choice?--Launchballer 23:03, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
ALT13 Approved for No Rome. Apologies for any added stress, Launchballer. Viriditas (talk) 23:08, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
