Description
[edit]This template creates an external link for a given minor planet to a single Reference Work Entry of the
Dictionary of Minor Planet Names published by Springer Science+Business Media. The external link's label is always DMP and cannot be changed. As of 2016, the website contains naming citations for several thousand named minor planets.
Usage
[edit]For most named minor planets, those numbered less than or equal to 9999, the external target URL is simply derived from the minor planet's number: the URL ends with a four digit number equal to <the minor planet's number> + 1. This calculation is performed by the template.
For minor planets numbered greater than or equal to 10,000, however, the target URL at Springer needs to be manually amended using a second parameter.
- The 1st parameter is for the number of the named minor planet.
- The 2nd parameter is only used when needing to override the default URL, in case the external URL does not correspond to a minor planet's number.
