The purpose of this template is to link Wikipedia articles to articles in the Wikisource edition of Encyclopædia Britannica Eleventh Edition (1911).
{{EB1911 poster|Article Name}}
or
{{EB1911 poster|Article Name|Display Name}}
In either case, an article name must be included in the first unnamed parameter or else an error message will be displayed. If the article or display name should use italic text in accordance with Wikipedia:Manual of style#Titles, you can set the italic parameter to |italic=yes
{{EB1911 poster|Sigel, Franz}}
{{EB1911 poster|Sigel, Franz|Franz Sigel}}
{{EB1911 poster|The Iliad|italic=yes}}
When the final character of an italicized title rises to and bunches with the closing quotation mark (as with the example above) use |italic=pad instead. This will pad the closing quotation mark without adding an extra space.
{{EB1911 poster|The Iliad|italic=pad}}
{{EB1911 poster|The Iliad|position=left}}
When this template is put into a Wikipedia article, please be kind to the regular Wikipedians who are working on those articles. This should be placed at the bottom of the article, usually the External links section. Sometimes it simply will not fit within the Wikipedia article at the bottom, so editors may have to use some judgement: think about using the inline version, {{Cite EB1911}}, and/or enlisting the cooperation of Wikipedians who normally edit the article, particularly if it is a larger and more popular article with many recent changes.
If this template is used without placing an article title in the first unnamed parameter, an error message will display when previewing the changes and a red error message will display on the page if published with the error in place. The page will also be categorized into the following maintenance category by the template:
All the templates have to use the first unnamed parameter for the name of the EB1911 article on Wikisource, because if the Wikisource article is renamed finding the links to it is easier. Therefore, adding the article name in the first unnamed parameter is a required failsafe.
