A Long-Tongued Tachinid Fly (
Senostoma species, approximately 12 mm (0.5 in) in length), feeding on
nectar. This is one of the 240,000 known species of true
flies, which are distinguished by a single pair of
wings on the
mesothorax and a pair of
halteres, derived from the hind wings, on the
metathorax.
