The
Old World Swallowtail (
Papilio machaon) is a
butterfly found throughout the
Palearctic region in Europe and Asia, as well as in North America, and thus is not restricted to the
Old World, despite the common name. It is yellow with black wing and vein markings and a wingspan of 8 to 10 centimetres (3.1 to 3.9 in). The hind wings have a pair of protruding tails, similar to a
swallow.
