Assembly of the
North American B-25 Mitchell
in
Kansas City, Kansas
, in 1942. This twin-engine
medium bomber
was manufactured by
North American Aviation
and named in honor of
Major General William Mitchell
, a pioneer of U.S. military aviation. Used by many
Allied
air forces, the B-25 served in every theater of World War II. Many remained in service in the decades after the war. Nearly 10,000 Mitchells rolled from NAA factories, including limited models for the U.S.
Marine Corps
and
Army Air Forces
.
