This is a route-map template for a UK waterway.
Note: Per consensus and convention, most route-map templates are used in a single article in order to separate their complex and fragile syntax from normal article wikitext. See these discussions [1],[2] for more information.
Suitable instructions belong here – please add to {{UK-waterway-routemap}}.
For finding bridge numbers, canalplan.org.uk may be useful.

will change the first line of the template to:
The optional named parameter |the=
anything will omit the word ‘the’ before the linked page. For example,
{{UK-waterway-routemap|the=x|King's Sedgemoor Drain|type=artificial drainage channel}}
will change the first line of the template to:
The optional named parameter |place=

and,
{{UK-waterway-routemap|Llangollen Canal|place=Welsh}}

Setting the optional named parameter to |cat=
no
will suppress inclusion in Category:United Kingdom waterway routemap templates, whereas |cat=
C
or Cornish
or Cornwall
will change the category to Category:Cornish rivers routemap templates.
Note that this parameter is not case sensitive: i.e. |cat=NO
produces the same result as |cat=no
.
