The Cornell School

The Cornell School, is a historic one-room schoolhouse nestled in Johnstown, Ohio.[1] Globally, one-room schoolhouses have substantially affected the foundation of literacy, critical thinking, and overall education of children in rural areas throughout the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries.[2] They stand as a reminder of the heritage, culture, and history of the places they occupy and are some of the earliest developments of social and democratic institutions.[2] The Cornell School exemplifies this specific educational system through its structure, teachings, and leadership.[1] This school is preserved by the Country School Association of America (CSAA) to highlight these factors.[3]
