It is based upon the 1997 novel Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The film stars Aishwarya Rai and Dylan McDermott. The soundtrack was created by Craig Pruess, who also contributed to the Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack.
