Tonshayevsky District (Russian: Тонша́евский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Tonshayevsky Municipal District.[4] It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,353.1 square kilometers (908.5 sq mi).[1] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Tonshayevo.[1] Population: 20,219 (2010 Census);[2] 20,038 (2002 Census);[6] 19,588 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Tonshayevo accounts for 22.6% of the district's total population.[2]
