The character, a funeral director, appears in the show's 4,354th episode, shown in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2012, and then returns later in 2012 as a recurring character. In 2014, he becomes one of the main, regular characters, being joined by his wife, Pam Coker (Lin Blakley). They are later joined by their grandson, Paul Coker (Jonny Labey).
