EastEnders is a British soap opera, examining the domestic and professional lives of working class people who live in the fictitious London Borough of Walford in the East End of London. The show airs on BBC1 and entered its eighth broadcasted year on 2 January 1992 with its 721st episode, with Leonard Lewis and Helen Greaves continuing their role as executive producers, until Greaves left and Lewis continued in the role, for his first full year in the running. EastEnders aired 106 episodes in 1992, with the the typical week comprising two half-hour episodes on BBC1, in a time slot of 7.30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Characters that were introduced in 1992 included Christine Hewitt (Elizabeth Power), Mandy Salter (Nicola Stapleton), Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), Shelley Lewis (Nicole Arumugam), Jack Woodman (James Gilbey), Richard Cole (Ian Reddington), and Andonis Papadopolous (Lee Warner). William Boyde made a guest return as James Willmott-Brown, while Michelle Collins reprised her role as Cindy Beale. The character of Steven Beale was also reintroduced, with the role recast to Stuart Stevens. Characters that departed the serial in 1992 included Lloyd Tavernier (Garey Bridges), Celestine and Etta Tavernier (Leroy Golding and Jacqui Gordon-Lawrence), and Gill Fowler (Susanna Dawson).
