Demonstration by the Promena Movement in Sofia in 2003

The Promena Movement (Движение Промена, "Change Movement" in English) is a Bulgarian non-profit organization[1] established in 2002 by Georgi Vasilev and a group of like-minded people in order to reform the legislation related to the use of psychoactive substances in the Republic of Bulgaria.

At the beginning of 2002, Vasilev gathered like-minded people to work to change the thinking in Bulgarian society regarding the use of marijuana. The first public presentation of the organisation is in the show Сблъсък ("Clash") on bTV on 10 February 2002, where Vasilev is participating, along with Julian Daniel.

Officially, the Change Movement was registered in October 2002 as a non-profit. From then until the end of 2005, the Association has conducted three parades, visited by approximately 1000 people. Its representatives have participated in numerous radio and television programmes, press conferences, organized information site and forums.

The main objective of the organization is to protect the rights and freedoms of users of marijuana, such as:

  • Legalization of cannabis
  • Eliminate penalties for owning a single dose (?) of any kind of drug
  • And so on
