K.F. Chan, a Hong Kong Chinese, is a mechanical engineer by training. He studied in Bishop Paschang Memorial School, La Salle College and University of Hong Kong. He is the humble father of a fellow Wikipedia contributor and active Wikimedian, Deryck Chan, who is also a founding member of Wikimedia Hong Kong. Compared with Deryck and many other friends, KF is almost like computer illiterate. He only started recently on Wikipedia as he felt compelled to report on the history of the almost forgotten Bishop Adolph J. Paschang, a diligent, dedicated and low profile American Maryknoll preacher working in China, who had suffered a lot during the Japanese occupation and in the early years of the Communist rule. It was after Bishop Paschang KF’s primary school was named.
In addition to his full time employment in one of the strongest electrical and mechanical contractor in Hong Kong, KF has written a little bit of technical publications on engineering subjects, and teaches as a part time lecturer at the University of Hong Kong and the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen.
Besides work, KF helps actively in various committees in his primary and secondary school. He is now a manager on the Incorporated Management Committee of Bishop Paschang Catholic School. KF spends most of his leisure time doing volunteer work in the social services arm of his church, named Open Door Ministries. He also once served as an advisor to Ngau Tau Kok Baptist Church helping convert a blue movie cinema into a church building. KF is currently an advisor to the Hong Kong Neuromuscular Disease Association and is serving on the Maryknoll Schools Board in Hong Kong.
