Erdem Tüzün was born in 1971 in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a physician with expertise in neurology and is currently working in Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey. His research is focused on autoimmune diseases of peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction (particularly myasthenia gravis and neuromyotonia) and limbic system. His major contributions are demonstration of antibodies against voltage-gated potassium channels and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors in limbic encephalitis, identification of the autoimmune etiology of neuromyotonia, demonstration of autoantibodies against thalamic structures as a causal factor for Morvan's syndrome, application of F tacheodispersion method for the early diagnosis of the subclinical diabetic neuropathy and demonstration of the roles of the complement and cytokine networks in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis.
