The Kumarbi cycle is a set of mythological stories of Hurrian origin which are known to us through Hittite texts found in very fragmentary condition in Hattusa. Although conventionally named after the god Kumarbi, these tales have the storm god Teshub as their main protagonist, describing his rise to divine kingship. The origin of the stories remains disputed, although it is undeniably Hurrian: either it is a pre-existing Hurrian story translated into Hittite as it is, or it is the constitution of an original story in Hittite from of myths from the Hurrian tradition.
